This paper uses listed companies with ESG ratings from 2009 to 2021 as a sample to explore the impact of the ESG audit model on earnings management in listed companies. Empirical analysis reveals that there is a significant negative correlation between ESG performance and audit costs, meaning that higher ESG ratings are associated with lower audit fees. Further analysis indicates that strong ESG performance can effectively reduce redundant management, suggesting that robust ESG responsibility can mitigate corporate risks, enhance corporate value, improve operational conditions, and further lower audit costs by curbing redundant management. This study enriches the existing research findings on the relationship between ESG performance and audit costs related to earnings management, providing theoretical basis for how to improve corporate ESG performance and strengthen ESG audit supervision.
<publication_date media_type="online"><month>7</month><day>4</day><year>2025</year></publication_date><publication_date media_type="print"><month>7</month><day>4</day><year>2025</year></publication_date><pages><first_page>1482</first_page><last_page>1490</last_page></pages><publisher_item><item_number item_number_type="article_number">119</item_number></publisher_item><ai:program xmlns:ai="http://www.crossref.org/AccessIndicators.xsd" name="AccessIndicators"><ai:free_to_read start_date="2025-07-04"/><ai:license_ref applies_to="am" start_date="2025-07-04">https://wseas.com/journals/bae/2025/c405107-3364.pdf</ai:license_ref></ai:program><archive_locations><archive name="Portico"/></archive_locations><doi_data><doi>10.37394/23207.2025.22.119</doi><resource>https://wseas.com/journals/bae/2025/c405107-3364.pdf</resource></doi_data><citation_list><citation key="ref0"><unstructured_citation>Gao Y, Huang J, ESG rating performance and corporate true surplus management— Evidence from Chinese A-share listed companies, Financial Development Research, Vol.5, No.1, 2023, pp. 3-12. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref1"><unstructured_citation>Liu Y, Cao Y, Li B, The impact of enterprise ESG performance on surplus management behavior, Reform, Vol.1, No.11, 2024, pp. 114-132. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref2"><unstructured_citation>Hao Y.
