Relational Grammar is a linguistic framework developed in the early 1970s as an alternative approach to Transformational Grammar. Relational Grammar distinguishes itself by focusing on the independence of grammatical relations from the phrasal status of terms and by making subject–object relations fundamental to syntactic analysis, rather than treating these relations as derived from phrasal structure.
