Advances in interactive technology, particularly tools like TouchDesigner, now enable researchers and designers to manipulate particle trajectories, forms, and interaction logic in real-time. Integrating sensors, audio, or custom data transforms static posters into dynamic media. This study, using the Digital Nuo Ritual poster as a case, examines the methodology of employing TouchDesigner's particle systems for mimetic imagery and dynamic expression. It showcases the Nuo mask—a hand-carved wooden artifact central to ancient Chinese religious and witchcraft traditions dating to 1600 BC—exploring its digital transformation from national intangible cultural heritage. The research aims to preserve and disseminate this ancient ritual through innovative digital means.
<publication_date media_type="online"><month>9</month><day>24</day><year>2025</year></publication_date><publication_date media_type="print"><month>9</month><day>24</day><year>2025</year></publication_date><pages><first_page>675</first_page><last_page>682</last_page></pages><publisher_item><item_number item_number_type="article_number">55</item_number></publisher_item><ai:program xmlns:ai="http://www.crossref.org/AccessIndicators.xsd" name="AccessIndicators"><ai:free_to_read start_date="2025-09-24"/><ai:license_ref applies_to="am" start_date="2025-09-24">https://wseas.com/journals/isa/2025/b105118-401.pdf</ai:license_ref></ai:program><archive_locations><archive name="Portico"/></archive_locations><doi_data><doi>10.37394/23209.2025.22.55</doi><resource>https://wseas.com/journals/isa/2025/b105118-401.pdf</resource></doi_data><citation_list><citation key="ref0"><unstructured_citation>Rebelo, S., Martins, P., Bicker, J., & Machado, P, Using Computer Vision Techniques for Moving Poster Design, International Conference Ergotrip Design, 2017, pp.1-12. https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.1811.11316. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref1"><unstructured_citation>Benyon, L, A New Poster Movement: How the Traditional Format is Evolving with an Injection of Animation, Eye on Design, pp.22, [Online]. https://eyeondesign.aiga.org/a-newposter-movement/ (Accessed Date: January 15, 2024). </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref2"><unstructured_citation>Zhao, Y., & Wang, X., Research on Digital Spatial Interactive Design Based on Acoustic Visualization Technology, Zhuangshi, Vol. 324, No.4, 2020, pp.96-99. https://doi.org/10.3969/j.issn.0412- 3662.2020.04.020 </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref3"><unstructured_citation>Liu, Y.H., Artistic Morphological Characteristics of Nanfeng Nuo Dance in JIangxi Province, Journal of Nanchang Normal University, Vol.30, No.6, 2019, pp.85-88. https://doi.org/10.3969/j.issn.1005- 3638.2009.06.025. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref4"><unstructured_citation>Wan, D.M., Research on the Value, Current Situation and Path of Digital Protection of Nuo Culture in Jiangxi Province, Journal of Tonghua Normal University, Vol. 45, No. 356, 2024, pp. 85-91. http://doi.org/10.13877/j.cnki.cn221284.2024. 11.013. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref5"><unstructured_citation>Kalidas, U., "12" Music Visualisation: Exploring Generative and Non-Generative techniques within a rhythmic framework in a performative spatial setting, OCAD University, 2023, [Online]. https://openresearch.ocadu.ca/id/eprint/4024/ (Accessed Date: January 18, 2024). </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref6"><unstructured_citation>Lucii, R., Synesthesia-exhibiting visual languages in the digital age and the aesthetic exploration of technology, Politecnico di Torino, 2021, [Online]. https://webthesis.biblio.polito.it/21017/ (Accessed Date: January 18, 2024). </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref7"><doi>10.4108/eai.24-11-2023.2343351</doi><unstructured_citation>Li, Y., An Exploration of Touchdesigner’s Applications in the Digital Innovation of Ink Art, Proceedings of the International Conference on Industrial Design and Environmental Engineering, 2023, pp.19-28. http://dx.doi.org/10.4108/eai.24-11- 2023.2343351. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref8"><unstructured_citation>Civit, E., Visual Representation of Noise in Augmented Reality Environments, Proceedings of EVA London, 2024, pp.376- 377. https://doi.org/10.14236/ewic/EVA2024.78. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref9"><unstructured_citation>Xue, R.L., The Art of Chinese Ritual Masks, Jiangxi Fine Arts Publishing House, 1996, ISBN : 957-638-337-4 . </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref10"><unstructured_citation>Liu, J., The Digital Protection of Dejiang Nuo Mask, North Minzu University, 2017, [Online]. http://acad.cnki.net/KCMS/detail/detail.aspx? dbcode=CMFD&dbname=CMFD201901&fil ename=1018872517.nh&uniplatform=OVER SEA&v=vARNnaQFfVdfae7o6SBhoH7QEV bsC2CcTZSuF1nzclvI6fXVvrdHIsLxdXX4s42 (Accessed Date: September 10, 2024). </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref11"><unstructured_citation>Cai, Y.X., Innovative Research on Digital Design of Maonan Nuo Masks in Guangxi Based on Touch Designer, Art Science and Technology, Vol. 36, No. 22, 2023, pp.182- 184. https://doi.org/10.3969/j.issn.1004- 9436.2023.22.059. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref12"><unstructured_citation>Chen, C.H., Research on Dynamic Graphic Special Effects Rendering Technology Based on Particle System, Nanjing Normal University, 2016. https://doi.org/10.27245/d.cnki.gnjsu.2016.00 0225. </unstructured_citation></citation><citation key="ref13"><unstructured_citation>Reeves, W.
