Abstract: This study investigates the economic, educational, political and macroeconomic determinants of permanent emigration from Romania during the period 2007-2023. Using two multiple linear regression models, the analysis compares the influence of internal factors (income, education, unemployment) and external factors (Consumer Price Index, EU average wage, MIPEX index) on emigration rates. The results show that the EU average wage is the most significant predictor, highlighting the role of income differences in shaping migration decisions. Inflation also shows a near-significant effect, suggesting that rising living costs may contribute to emigration. In contrast, unemployment and integration policies appear to have limited explanatory power. The study applies backward stepwise regression to increase the robustness of the model and identify key policy implications, including the need for competitive wage policies, reintegration programs, and targeted economic incentives to mitigate labor flows.
