The Influence of Environmental, Social, and Economic Dimensions on Urban Sustainability in New Cities of the UAE

Abstract: This study examines how urban sustainability is affected by environmental, social, and economic factors in recently constructed cities in the United Arab Emirates. A structured questionnaire comprising twenty-one items spanning four constructs was completed quantitatively by 168 experts in sustainability and urban planning. These three factors together accounted for 33.2% of the variance in urban sustainability outcomes, according to multiple regression analysis. The economic dimension showed the greatest individual influence $$(R^{2} = 0.246, p < 0.001)$$, followed by the social $$(R^{2} = 0.057, p < 0.001)$$ and environmental ($$R^{2} = 0.160, p < 0.001$$) dimensions. The findings show that although all three aspects greatly enhance urban sustainability, economic considerations are especially important in the context of the United Arab Emirates. The results back up integrated urban planning strategies that strike a balance between social, economic, and environmental factors.
