Abstract: Throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, rapid advancements in network technologies, especially the Internet, have coincided with growing demand for high-speed connectivity. This demand surged further during the COVID-19 pandemic and has remained high even post-pandemic, with some nations exceeding their bandwidth capacity. To address this, many governments have adopted Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), which offer faster, more efficient data transmission compared to traditional exchange models. This study explores IXPs' advantages, their impact on Domestic Broadband Production (DBP), and how they have been implemented globally. It highlights that developed countries have increasingly leveraged IXPs to meet bandwidth needs, resulting in improved DBP. In contrast, many Arab nations have not yet widely adopted IXPs, potentially limiting their broadband performance. The paper emphasizes the critical role of IXPs in managing sustained global bandwidth growth and calls attention to regional disparities in their deployment and impact.
