Abstract: This paper investigates the present state of investment funds across the European Union together with market developments and regulatory changes and upcoming matters that define this essential financial sector. The European investment fund sector maintained assets worth approximately €18.8 trillion during 2020 which positions it as a leading force in worldwide finance. The research investigates fund market structures by showing how UCITS funds dominate while fund domicile locations primarily exist in Luxembourg and Ireland. The article explores EU regulatory development by starting with the UCITS Directive and then moving to recent regulations including the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation and European Long-Term Investment Funds Regulation. The barriers to a unified single market for investment funds consist of diverse regulatory rules and complex taxation systems. Possible future policy directions emphasize improved supervisory alignment and enhanced risk management systems and better cross-border fund distribution to support EU Capital Markets Union goals.
