Modelling and Analyzing of Solar Microgrid System for Rural Area using Simulink

Abstract: Bangladesh is heavily reliant on fossil fuels for energy production. However, the constant depletion of fossil fuels poses a threat to the country's energy security in the near future. Moreover, rural people suffer the most in the face of any insufficiency. The purpose of this paper is to provide a solution for both issues through using solar energy as a renewable source of power in rural areas. Additionally, this project aims to work on commercializing microgrids to make energy production and distribution more accessible in rural areas. To analyze and ensure the feasibility of solar microgrids in compact spaces, a virtual model of the microgrid was designed using MATLAB (Simulink). With the help of the model, the entire process was tested and analyzed through simulations. The analysis showed that not only is sufficient energy conversion possible through solar microgrids in the underdeveloped areas, but in favorable weather conditions, sending surplus energy to the main grid is also possible. These results imply that using the virtual models, any proposed microgrid can be tested through simulations. The generated power of 6183W reflects the total active power output from the solar system. Additionally, the power factor of 0.99 is close to unity, indicating highly efficient power delivery with minimal reactive losses. Moreover, the results can then be utilized in the practical sector as well, making the entire process cost, labor, and time efficient.
