Abstract: The damping effect of various medications on the high, uncommonly strongly fluctuating, blood pressure (BP) of an aged male was evaluated. The patient (a retired professor in the natural sciences) measured for the purpose both his systolic blood pressure (SBP) and his diastolic blood pressure (DBP) three times daily (morning, afternoon, evening, both left and right) during the entire year 2024. Daily administration of Losartan cinfa (100 mg) had little effect. Losartan cinfa (100 mg) + hydrochlorotiazida resulted in significant lowering of both SBP and DBP and even more when later the administration was reduced by half, but these medications had too severe side-effects; Higrotona (50 mg) had somewhat less effect on the height of the BP, but showed acceptable damping of the SBP and DSP fluctuations, and had no side-effects on the patient. Although patients with strongly fluctuating BP are often not aware of this feature because they do not have any alarming physical symptoms, it is commonly believed that measures to reduce both the height and variability of their BP are beneficial. This can be achieved by medication, but the effects can be interpreted satisfactorily only if both the SBP and the DBP are measured frequently (at least daily) for a sufficiently long time (at least several weeks).
