A Low Profile Rectangular Patch Antenna for Biotelemetry Applications
Authors: , ,
Abstract: In this research paper, a thin semiflexible antenna is designed for wearable biotelemetry applications. The antenna is created from RT/duroid5880, a semi-flexible material with a relative permittivity of 2.2 and tangent of 0.0004, and has a dimension of 50 mm x 50 mm x 0.25 mm (625 mm3). Modifications are made to the ground plane to increase the return loss. To make a patch resonate at the desired frequency, rectangular slots are inserted into the patch. The final antenna model runs at a frequency of 2.435 GHz which is in the ISM band. The suggested antenna is a strong option for wearable biomedical equipment which is a small and portable one. The proposed antenna is analyzed by parameters like Return loss, Gain, Voltage Wave Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), Radiation efficiency, and Special absorption rate(SAR). Even though the proposed antenna geometry is based on the traditional rectangular patch, this research proves a low profile compared to some existing antennas for similar applications. In that aspect, our novelty in the proposed design is proven. A High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) is used for the proposed antenna design and simulation.
