Coding-Centered Dynamic Modeling of Induction Motors: An Educational Approach

Abstract: The analysis and synthesis of electric machines represent pivotal areas of inquiry within the broader field of electric machine study, particularly in the context of the induction motor (IM), which finds extensive application across a range of industrial settings. This study presents a comprehensive dynamic analysis of the 3-phase IM using Mathematica 13.0 software, with the objective of enhancing understanding by providing educationally oriented codes that are ready for further development. While similar analyses have been conducted previously, this study is distinctive in its use of Mathematica in this form. The accuracy of the results has been validated through a comparable MATLAB study. By leveraging the full potential of Mathematica's symbolic computing capabilities, this research addresses existing academic and research gaps and proposes a robust coding structure for IMs. The study employs Mathematica's specialized tools and animation capabilities to elucidate the characteristics of IMs over time, rendering it particularly useful for the design and control of electric machines. Electrical engineering students, who frequently excel in steady-state circuit problems, may encounter difficulties in dealing with time-varying electric machine quantities. Mathematica is a vital tool for electrical machine dynamics research and instruction because it makes it easier to handle intricate symbolic calculations, visualize data, and solve differential equations both symbolically and numerically.
