Performance Analysis of Cascaded H-bridge Inverter with SPWM and SVPWM Techniques

Abstract: Numerous studies have focused on multilevel inverters and their modulation strategies to minimize output harmonic distortion and enhance overall inverter performance. Among these, Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) are widely recognized high-frequency modulation techniques capable of producing output voltages with reduced harmonic content. In this work, a comprehensive performance analysis of a Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter is carried out using level-shifted Phase Disposition (PD) SPWM and a recent optimized SVPWM method. The evaluation is based on total harmonic distortion (THD), fundamental output voltage magnitude, and DC bus utilization under various load conditions.
