Digital Inheritance without Intermediate: Securing Crypto Assets after Death

Abstract: With the rise of cryptocurrencies, the issue of crypto-asset’s inheritance is becoming a major
challenge. Unlike traditional financial assets, these digital assets are secured by cryptographic keys and
are independent of intermediaries, making their transfer after the death of the owner complex. Without
proper planning, these funds risk being lost forever. This article explores the challenges and solutions
associated with inheriting crypto-assets. It also examines smart contract’s role in automating asset
transfer while ensuring security and compliance. Finally, we propose an AI-DLT-based architecture to
ensure the secure and automated transfer of crypto-assets after the death of the owner. This approach
aims to prevent the loss of funds and facilitate the reliable and efficient transfer of digital assets to their
rightful owners, including heirs who do not possess cryptocurrency wallets.
