Abstract: A flyback converter with an additional step-down stage with a tapped inductor is presented. The function of the converter is described and the voltage transformation rates for the continuous mode are derived. The dimensioning equations for the devices are given. The dynamic model is calculated and simulations are shown. The converter enables an isolated output and shows a wide range in the transformation rate. It is especially useful for small solar applications in addition to a micro-inverter.
