A Preliminary and Novel Computational Application of Relational Grammar for the Greek Language

Abstract: This paper presents a first implementation of Relational Grammar in the Modern Greek Language, with an analysis of the basic laws and principles. Relational Grammar is a linguistic framework developed in the early 1970s as an alternative approach to Transformational Grammar. Relational Grammar distinguishes itself by focusing on the independence of grammatical relations from the phrasal status of terms and by making subject–object relations fundamental to syntactic analysis, rather than treating these relations as derived from phrasal structure. The approach herein is explained with several examples from Modern Greek.
