Typical Eligibility Criteria for Invited Speakers at WSEAS Conferences
Invited speakers are expected to be established researchers or practitioners with a strong record of impactful contributions in their field. This typically includes significant publications, leadership in research areas, or recognized innovation in applied mathematics, computational science, or related disciplines. Why: Organizers aim to ensure that plenary and invited talks reflect high-level scholarship and are broadly relevant to the community.
2. Alignment with Conference Themes
Speakers must have expertise that matches the scientific focus and goals of the conference program. The organizing committee selects speakers whose work advances the key technical topics and themes of the event.
3. Diversity and Representation
Organizers are specifically encouraged to ensure broad representation in invited speaker selections, including:
* Scientific disciplines
* Industry and academia balance
* Geographical diversity
* Gender and underrepresented groups
This is a formal WSEAS policy for conference organizing committees.
4. Approval by WSEAS Leadership
Invited speakers must typically be approved by WSEAS’s President for Programs before formal invitations are issued. This applies to plenary and other high-profile invited talks.
5. Prior Speaking Engagements
At some WSEAS meetings (e.g., Annual Meetings), there are rules about repetition — e.g., not inviting a speaker who has been a plenary or topical speaker in recent years.
6. Financial and Logistical Commitments
* Invited speakers should be willing to Provide titles and abstracts in a timely manner.
* Attend the conference and present in person unless special accommodations are approved
Even if not formal eligibility rules, invited speakers are expected to provide a high-quality, accessible lecture. Presentations should focus on intuition, insight, and broad appeal rather than overly narrow technical minutiae, especially in plenary sessions. Conference organizers often require final titles, abstracts, and bio information well before the event.
